If you are a bicycle enthusiast, you already know that the AMGEN Tour of California is our Nation's largest cycling race. This race lures professional cyclists from all over the world, many that also compete in the Tour de France.
This years AMGEN tour of California is in full swing. Stage One was from Nevada City to Sacramento. Stage Two, which was yesterday, started in Davis and ended in Santa Rosa. Immediately after the race, Lance Armstrong tweeted "Does it always rain here?"
The race had taken place in February in previous years. This year, the race was scheduled in May in hopes of better weather. Guess what? We had an unusual (but much needed) downpour just as the racers reached downtown Santa Rosa.
So no, Lance Armstrong, it doesn't always rain in Sonoma County. But evidently it likes to rain when you come to visit!

Cynthia.....you've had some nasty weather there....but that makes a race more challenging....
Barbara - we've had 3 severe years of drought, so the rain we have had this year has been REALLY welcomed! I'm from Oregon so it doesn't phase me one bit!
I have to say that I do not recognize the bridge. Regardless, Why does it always rain during the Amgen??? Last year was worse.
Jim - as soon as I saw what the weather was supposed to be like for AMGEN I just thought oh no, not again!
Cynthia....Rain or shine I'm sure the AMGEN is a great event. Just seeing world class cyclists would be a treat.
Carra - Sonoma County has become a very popular place for cyclists, Santa Rosa has been in the AMGEN tour of California all 5 years of it's existence. One of our residents, Levi Leipheimer was on Lance's Tour de France team, and after Lance decided to un-retire, he joined Levi's team. Very cool.
